👇

1. Hey Joe. Can you please introduce yourself.

Hi! I'm Joe, Head Barista & Trainer at 200 Degrees Coffee, I'm also a Barista at Training Ground in Penarth!

2. How did you get in to coffee?

I fell into it really, I was a food runner in Bill's restaurant running up and down stairs all day to the kitchen. My knees eventually got the better of me and I was upgraded to Bar work! I was shown the very basics of Italian coffee and standard cocktails. Everything snowballed, I won a few competitions and completed a few SCA courses which lead me to Milan, Geneva & Toronto which were incredible!

3. What is speciality coffee for you?

Specialty coffee for me is the attention to detail from farm to cup, with quality across the board with the types of coffee, particular farms, processing, roasting and the way the Barista creates that certain beverage. Most importantly is the passion that is influenced throughout the industry which is an amazing thing.

4. What are the most important aspects of being a barista?

The most important aspects of being a barista is serving high quality drinks with consistency and passion that the customer will love, along the way hopefully the Barista can share their coffee experiences and educate the customer along the way!

5. What is your ultimate goal in Coffee?

To have my own specialty shop, to travel, educate and represent the brand that I've created.

6. Some wise words for people who want to learn more about coffee? And your own coffee inspiration ?

Talk to everyone, I used to be very shy but since I was introduced to Coffee my confidence has rocketed. Also read, practice be social but most importantly be patient...things will come!

My inspiration is Luigi Lupi, one of the founders of Latte Art. I was lucky enough to train with him in Milan a few years ago and also work with him in Geneva! Inspiring man!
